Shopping Strategies for Holiday Deals

As we approach the most magical time of the year, many of us are putting up decorations, making travel plans and preparing our finances for gift giving. Here are ways you can make the most of your dollar this holiday season.

MAKE A LIST AND CHECK IT TWICE

Sticking to a list is a great way to guide you through holiday shopping. Have a specific amount you want to spend for each person and the price of their gift.

SHOP EARLY

Don’t procrastinate, be proactive! If you start your holiday shopping early, this will spread out spending instead of dropping big bucks in one month alone.

WATCH FOR DEALS

While shopping early is helpful, if you’re looking for big-ticket items, you might want to take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. You should also watch for discounted gift cards, coupons and keep an eye on rebates.

DON’T OVERSPEND ON BLACK FRIDAY “DEALS”

While many Black Friday discounts can save us money, they can also entice us to buy things we might not actually need. Make a list of gifts or items that you truly need to hunt for during these discount days (and all season!).

SWAP CASH FOR CREDIT

Shopping with cash (and keeping a close eye on it) can help you stay on budget and protect against credit card debt.

GET CRAFTY AND CREATIVE

Save money but with a more personal touch by making your gifts! This adds sentimental value and will provide your loved one with a gift they’ll cherish forever.

Also consider gifting an experience like a spa day or seasonal pass to the zoo. There’s no better gift than a memory!
